Humans have long questioned our place in the world, how we came to be, and why; cultures across the globe have woven tales to answer these questions. Humankind’s story with our world is ever-changing and has evolved since the creation of such folklore. Still, these stories remain relevant to us. Nature and Human Nature seeks to re-entwine us with nature through investigating such folklore about the more-than-human world. It dares the viewer to reconnect with our Earth.
The works in this exhibition engage with human influences on our ecosystem, just as much as it has shaped us. With once-in-a-generation weather events occurring with startling regularity, dwindling forests, and habitat loss, it’s important to ask what we can give the earth, as much as it gives us. The exhibition explores our interconnected relationship with nature through painting, photography, textiles, and sculpture.
