Midleton Farmers Market Marks 25 Years – and Celebrates with a Festive Finale

This year has been a milestone for one of East Cork’s most beloved institutions, as Midleton Farmers Market proudly celebrates its 25th anniversary.

What began in 2000 as a modest gathering of a handful of farmers and food producers has flourished into one of Ireland’s premier markets. Founded by Darina Allen of Ballymaloe Cookery School, Ted Murphy, then a local town councillor, and a number of passionate producers, the market was among the very first of its kind in Ireland. It helped to ignite the country’s modern-day farmers’ market movement and, in doing so, shaped the food culture of Midleton and beyond.

The vision of its founders was simple yet powerful – to connect local people with local food. A quarter of a century later, that vision remains at the heart of the market, which has become a thriving hub of community, sustainability, and quality produce.
