The music of drummer John Colpitts as Man Forever is explorative, innovative and fearless. A musician and composer equally versed in the disparate musical languages of DIY rock, improvisation, and contemporary classical.
Following the release of his sophomore album with Greg Fox (Liturgy, Guardian Alien) Biting Through earlier this year, visionary composer and multi-instrumentalist John Colpitts has announced a string of European tour dates for his Man Forever project this December. Performing solo, Colpitts will be premiering a new show that investigates his recent experience of being involved in a traumatic car accident.
The collaborative process, essential to Man Forever, requires the relinquishing of one’s ego for a greater purpose. On last years Thrill Jockey release - Play What They Want, Colpitts leverages a vast and talented stable of diverse collaborators to create a work that transcends the sum of its parts.
Propulsive, elaborate drum arrangements (created with TIGUE Percussion) are augmented by voice and melody with contributions from Laurie Anderson, Yo La Tengo, and Mary Lattimore to name a few.
A culmination of 25 years of musical engagement by one of New York’s most acclaimed percussionists.
On support we welcome the Dan Walsh for a special
Fixity [solo] show - one man, drum machines, keys, saxophone, flutes and feeling.
"Since its inception in 2015, Cork’s Fixity has become one of Ireland’s most formidable experimental/ improvisational outfits. With a rotating cast of regular members and guest musicians, improvised live sets built on foundations laid by bandleader/ drummer/ composer Dan Walsh have gained a certain notoriety thanks to their feverish and psychedelic turns. There’s a chaotic energy to it that could invoke the likes of Sly And The Family Drone, but a more “acoustic” line-up of instruments and a keen allegiance to kosmische finds things veering into Popol Vuh territory, or into the propulsive krautrock sphere of Dublin’s The Jimmy Cake."
