John Ahern is a Cork City-based guitarist and composer whose musical style spans multiple genres, from rock, pop and jazz to Irish traditional and classical. A recent graduate of MTU Cork School of Music's Bachelor of Music program, John is currently pursuing an MA in Music, focusing on composition. His talent has been recognised with the Barbara Harris Memorial Scholarship and top placement in the 2023 MTU advanced recital competition. John has performed at prestigious venues across Ireland and composed for notable ensembles, including Crash ensemble and the Cork School of Music Symphony Orchestra. His orchestral piece, Am Máirseála, premiered in 2023, solidifying his reputation as both a skilled performer and innovative composer in Cork's vibrant music scene.
As a solo performer, John seamlessly blends his love of classical guitar repertoire with his own arrangements, for solo guitar, of traditional Irish and popular music.
