He first found success with Belfast folk–rock outfit Watercress, before relocating to New York, where he performed extensively and collaborated with alternative pop group Joy Zipper. Returning to the UK, Donnelly became an in–demand musician, playing with numerous acts and spending five years as a full member of The Wonder Stuff. In 2022, he joined the iconic Levellers, bringing his musicianship and distinctive voice to the band’s live shows and recordings. Alongside his work as a performer and writer, Donnelly completed a master’s degree in music in 2019 and currently manages The Peacock, a respected music venue and pub in Sunderland.
