Cork Faces and Places — Kieran O'Callaghan
Frank O'Connor Library, Mayfield | 1st–31st May | Free
One of Cork's finest artists brings the city's most beloved faces and places to life in a major new exhibition at Frank O'Connor Library in Mayfield this May.
Cork Faces and Places brings together pencil, charcoal and colour works spanning Cork's heroes and its history — portraits of Michael Collins, Rory Gallagher, Tomás MacCurtain and Frank O'Connor himself sit alongside a haunting charcoal of Cork City Hall in ruins after the burning of 1920, and a vivid series of inter-county GAA scenes full of colour and energy.
Béal na Bláth-based Kieran O'Callaghan has been quietly producing some of the most distinctive Cork-themed work in the country for decades. His paintings hang in private collections worldwide and have found their way to Micheál Martin, Liam Neeson and Dermot Desmond — but this May, they're on your doorstep and completely free to see.
Official launch: Wednesday 7th May, 11am — all welcome.
