Blanca Rice Cabrera (1989) is an Argentinean-Irish artist, based in Cork City. She is known under the
pseudonym of Libertad which means Liberty. She grew up in a family with a strong history in the defence and promotion of human rights. Her parents were survivors of the Dictatorship in Argentina (1976-1983). Her visual production is inspired by social causes and human rights movements with a gender perspective.
She has a career working as a mural painter, where she explores culture, crafts and design patterns from ancestral peoples and the biodiversity of places she visited around the world. She facilitates mural projects where local communities are involved in the process of creating the mural designs and the painting process, achieving the sense of ownership for the local people.
Since June 2023, she has been based in Cork, where she started to work on her personal project “Céad Míle Fáilte” at the Tramore Road Campus. She excavates her Irish family memories to investigate her father`s roots as a human rights activist from Fermoy, Co. Cork.
