The Lavit Gallery is delighted to present AFTER, a solo exhibition of work by Frieda Meaney. In this exhibition Frieda Meaney responds to her residency in Panama in 2017.
Meaney spent three weeks living with the Guna tribe in the remote Guna Yala region of the rainforest, bound in the north by the Caribbean Sea and in the east by Colombia. Her previous exhibition ‘Lifeforms and Landmarks’ 2017/18 looked at the most recent extinction event and the evolution of birds from dinosaurs, while this exhibition is addressing the current extinction of indigenous peoples.
The mediums chosen to express these responses, print, painting, chine colle and installation were chosen for their adaptable properties.
She continues to address the pertinent problems of the ecosystem and extinctions caused by the climate crisis.
