Abair Amhrán with the Vespertine Ensemble
Abair Amhrán (“say a song”) is a relaxed, supportive environment to explore the tradition of Irish song while improving your Irish. Each session invites singers to share Irish songs and learn new ones under the guidance of Eithne O’Mahony from the Muskerry Gaeltacht.
On October 3rd, Abair Amhrán comes to Levis Corner House, Ballydehob. We’ll begin by learning a couple of classics, including Mo Ghile Mear and Fáinne Geal an Lae.
We’ll then be joined by the Vespertine Ensemble, led by Justin Grounds. The ensemble specialises in sparse, soulful music, from Renaissance to modern minimalism, and has collaborated with artists including Liam O’Maonlaoi, Camilla Griehsel, Adrian Crowley and John Spillane.
This is an opportunity to sing these songs accompanied by a modern classical chamber ensemble. No previous singing experience or knowledge of Irish is necessary — the songs will be taught and lyrics translated where needed.
