Hoggie For President?

Three days of mourning have been declared on Leeside this morning after Cork’s Patrick Horgan announced his retirement from intercounty hurling. The news broke on Tuesday, four days after Hoggie’s own club Glen Rovers were knocked out of the county championship.

After 18 seasons playing senior hurling for Cork and 90 appearances, Hoggie stands as the highest scoring intercounty hurler of all time with an incredible 32-686 and four All-Star awards.

The announcement comes at an interesting point in the 2025 race for Áras an Uachtarán with former Dublin football manager Jim Gavin one of the front-runners as the Fianna Fáil candidate. The Doomsday scenario of a Dubliner as President is Hoggie has until midnight tonight to declare his interest and get a nomination….
