What a farce they have made of the lower grade championships in both hurling & football

Going to be some hammerings dished out now. Not sure who thought this would be a good idea. If they were looking to up the numbers in the championships, then they should have promoted the county finalists and possibly semi-finalists - teams that could at least compete up in Intermediate.

The football situation is the biggest joke of all. Bandon won 8 games to get up to Intermediate while Clon got relegated from the same Junior A Championship, yet both will be playing Intermediate next year. Only in Cork...

They'd want to start this in feb to get it run off withib the year, seeing senior clubs entering their junior a team at this level when there not even competitive in their division is a fucking farce and some of those clubs should have a look at themselves

The Glen haven't won a game in the city division in 4 years apparently. It's a kick in the hole to all the small rural clubs.

You'd have to wonder why clubs like Clon and The Glen are accepting to enter their second team at that level when they know they won't be able to compete at all. Surely it's better having players at a level where they can compete?

Do these teams also enter the Cork County Leagues at the lowest division next year too?

Serious kick in the nuts for the likes of Cloughduv, who have been on the brink of promotion to Intermediate for years now and also the likes of Iveleary on the football sides of things who looked like a side that could do well in Intermediate. And a total lack of respect for smaller rural Junior club on the whole!

From what i have heard, the players in the Glen were against going up but the ould lads in suits were all for it. Sure when the Glen and the Rockies were relegated from Intermediate they were still allowed compete in the Intermediate league ffs. It's an elitest move, nothing more. It won't do anything to improve the standard of Cork hurling.

Sars would be a much stronger Junior team than the Glen, Piarsaighs, Inniscarra etc but didn't opt to go up, possibly given they haven't been troubling the East Cork title in recent years.

In fairness, Sars are probably the best 2nd team in East Cork and whilst they haven't won it, they are always one of the harder teams to beat. Carrigaline may regret their decision, Fr O Neills could put up a serious score on them, if they keep progressing.
If that is true about the Glen players not wanting to go up, but the club overruling them, and they know they are not up to it, makes no sense to me.

The alleged line that's it's for the big teams to improve their players is bollox. They'd improve if they could beat the junior teams they are already to face. The Clon scenario is the biggest joke yet.

The obvious thing was to get rid of divisional junior and pick the best 16 for the Junior championship, next best for the Junior B and keep going that way. It would freshen things up from the staleness that exist at present.

Promoting these second teams is farcical. In hurling especially there is no longer any competition there
