DJ Shadow & Pendulum confirmed for Savoy Theatre

Ya, that's a good video. Audio straight from the desk. Here it is in the room:

You can hear the clarity going when the bass line kicks in, just like I described earlier.

You can also hear how shit your camera's mic is too when its exposed to high decibel levels. ;)

Can you get any special mics that would be good for recording in live venues,

i.e being able to take more dBs without distortion?

Nerd talk- the problem there is the AGC on the recorder, not the mic itself.

Ive never heard a recording in the crowd at a venue, on youtube, that wasnt distorted when a bassline or a kick drum was playing.

Even with the gain down full, i bet there would still be distortion.

Mind you, if the AGC was activated would it not have turned down the gain anyway?

Video removed.

Last time I recorded a gig in the Savoy, I used a self powered condenser straight into the line input to avoid clipping. It was a multitrack recording, I mixed it in with the on stage mics to add ambience. It needed a big bass roll off, obviously. The mic used in that clip is also used for measuring sound pressure level, so it's not crap, it's just very loud in the room.
