Peoples Republic of Cambodia

Here are some pictures of me during my time in Cambodia. My PROC t-shirt became exposed to the public on many occasions ans it proved to be a great topic starter. Behind me is one of the most famous monuments in the world. "The clock tower in Youghal?" I hear you say, not quite, its Angkor Wat.

The temples at Angkor are spread out over some 40 miles around the village of Siem Reap, about 192 miles from the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh. They were built between the eighth and 13th centuries and range from single towers made of bricks to vast stone temple complexes.

There are two main sites where the Khmer temples are located. The first is at Roluos which is about 10 miles south east of today's village of Siem Reap, where only a few of the earlier temples were built.

It is officially known as the City of Angkor. There are other temples located in the area, some up to 20 miles away from Siem Reap. Khmer temples can also be found in many other parts of Cambodia, as well as China, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.

Today, a great deal of restoration work has been done on many of the temples. However, because of the lack of security in Cambodia and the continuing rebel insurgency around the Angkor region, some of the temples are closed to tourists. The major temples, as listed below, are usually open to tourists.

Even the most hardened, sovereign ridden, gotta-away-with-3-months-suspended Cork super scobe couldn't but smile at this pic. We at PRC wept openly with joy at the thought of the upbringing this lucky child will receive:

Here's a pic of my 6 week old daugher Sadhbh, my husband Rev. Mairt Hanley and friend Garda Mario Boersma in various versions of your fab t shirts. Thanks for all the fun!!!
