Recession Buster at Turners Cross

Turners Cross Recession Buster

Cork City FC take on Drogheda United at Turner’s Cross next Tuesday in what promises to be an exciting League of Ireland Premier Division encounter, and in order to play our part in beating the recession blues The Rebel Army are offering free entry to the game for all supporters.

Such defiant symbolism in the face of a bleak and bitter budget must be taken with the goodwill with which it is intended even though it may raise a few eyebrows among those who fretted during last season's testing financial difficulties - the likely cry being 'do we not need every penny we can get'.

Former Republic of Ireland international Colin Healy in action against Bray recently.

Gate receipts are a major source of income for the club and this generous gesture would not have been made without serious consideration for the long term financial well-being of the Turners Cross based outfit.

Speaking to CorkCityFC.ie, Chairman Tom Coughlan said: “We recognise that people are facing tough times at the moment; you only have to look at the papers or turn on the radio or TV to see that people are struggling financially. As a football club which is rooted in the community, we feel an obligation to show some leadership and help to lift some of the doom and gloom and that is why we are offering the people of Cork the chance to come and watch City free of charge on Tuesday.”

With two wins against Leinstershire based Bray and Bohemians on the trot, a third West Brit club look likely to receive a pounding against a Cork side gathering momentum on Tuesday as bottom of the table Drogheda United - tattered evidence of the boom 'n' bust culture of Irish football - stagger out in front of the Rebel Army.

With gleaming newly built stands that would give any Pairc Uí Chaoimh regular a surprise horn (the unexpected leg room gets blood flowing to all sorts of places) you can even get a cup of tea inside Turner Cross at half time - something that would require several years of debate and motions to implement down at the Marina siopa.
