Pana Street Painting World Record Attempt

Slowest Street Painting World Record Attempt

It might not seem long since Michael Jackson visited Cork but it might surprise you that its now over 21 years since the moon walk was invented on the stage at Pairc Úi Chaoimh.

Since then, Corkonians have always had a soft spot for Wacko’s legacy (he stayed away from Dublin for a start) even as his misfortunate face became something resembling the ground outside Hillbillys on a Saturday night.

Homages to Jackson’s work come in many forms and Cork has chosen a rather unique expression of its on-going affection for the singer by attempting to set the World Record for the slowest street painting of all time.

We picked it up as the artist reached the Smooth Criminal phase back on May 28th. Applying such incredible detail is painstaking work and to date we estimate that the artist has advanced the painting a mesmerising 2.3cms in the direct of Cudmore’s old sweet shop. Now a phone store.

This rate of excruciating detail will no doubt sideline the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and put Cork ahead of its failing rival Rome for elaborate time consuming paint jobs.

All going well the job should be completed by 2017. We look forward to watching progress through the summer with a microscope and wish the hard working artist well.
