The new arrivals: A picture of innocence now but come next May they'll be sent back to their countries corrupted beyond measure.

As college students once again pour back into the city to start another academic year we Corkonians have a duty to welcome them and ensure their stay in Cork is a memorable one.

Anyone who walks (or off-roads) around Washington St. or Western Road these mornings will notice a remarkable increase in young adults wearily trudging their way towards UCC. Anyone using the South Link or North Ring will notice the increase in the number of hooch wagons and spoilers making their way out to CIT.

For many freshers from outside Cork college will not only be their first taste of real freedom from their folks but also their first real taste of living in a fabulous county. You will see many of them with bowed heads as they walk to college humbled at simply being allowed to walk the streets of our city.
