Cork-Dublin Motorway
Anyone who has to trudge the Cork-Dublin N8 boreen on a weekly basis like myself will be looking at nearby construction works with mouth watering lust from the driving seat. You watch the dumpers and hope one day to see line painters out but week after week it just seems to be more muck lorries and diggers.
The Fermoy direct route is fantastic and shaves a good 15 minutes off a journey to Dumpland and I thank God I never have to sit in traffic again in that bottleneck.
On the NRA website I found schemes for
Portlaoise to Cullahill
Cullahill to Cashel
Cashel to Mitchelstown (described as dual carriageway)
Depressingly none of these are due to be completed until the end of 2009. Somebody with inside information please tell me that this is a PR job and that they’ll be ready sooner! I’m desperate like...
Also, is there any hope of continuing the motorway beyond Fermoy anytime soon? It looks like its set up to continue on but perhaps a forest will grow there by the time its ready to be worked on again.
