| Wiggle have been playing with some of the top movers and shakers from the New Zealand Electro-Dub scene: Salmonella Dub, Fat Freddy's Drop, and the Nomad. Recently Wiggle played along one of their idols; legendary reggae vocalist Eek-A-Mouse. They've played many of the venues in and around Cork City and were the last band playing at the Electric Picnic Festival 2005. In Jan '06 they played to a live television audience on TG4's Saturday night Ardan programme. Electro-Dub- Reggae-Dance-Drum 'n Bass-Soul-Tribal-Hypnotic… Wiggle formed in a Cork puddle, a widdle puddle on a wainy day. 'Twas after a party at the end of 1999, like. Four is their number, but sometimes comprised are they of more. Play they the music of Dub and Bleeps and beat they the many drum machines, sequencers, samples, keyboards, live vocals, guitar and bass. Between the striking astral crooning, dulcet guitar twangs, glittering keyplay and sub bassing you will be terrifically excited. Wiggle was born a number of years ago when Toby, John-John and Colm began to make music with a 303 drum-machine, a guitar and a bass in the dwelling they commonly occupied. Soon began a series of small gigs every Saturday night in the deceased but still legendary Yumi Yuki club above the Triskel arts centre in Cork City. As they grew so did their sound and their array of magical instruments and trippy effects. Wiggle became the sound of the Cork underground with a diverse audience spanning from full on hippies to trendy Techno kids. At their performances it would not be strange to see a 6-year-old child wiggling beside and 80-year-old man such is the universal appeal of the Wiggle sound. Many of the early Wiggle's were held in West Cork barns and the odd castle in West Cork. In 2002 they began a free monthly gig on Bachelor's Quay to cater for those urban people who may not frequent barns in West Cork. In the summer of 2005 while John-John was on the other side of the world researching the art of lovemaking and vegetable growing, Toby and Colm invited Rory and Alan, two musical friends to join the Digi-Dub Terrorism movement in a performance in the Spiegeltent on the summer solstice. This was the beginning of the most recent wiggle chapter as Rory joined the band introducing an array of new instruments including theremin, trumpet, melodica, slide-whistle, accordion, keyboards, mini guitar and dropping samples from his laptop. The Wiggle evolution continued when John-John returned and the band played a number of highly improvised gigs including support to well known New Zealand bands Salmonella Dub, Fat Freddy's Drop and Shapeshifter. In September 2005 Wiggle finished up at the Electric Picnic festival where they perhaps had their finest moment entertaining one of the most receptive audiences for their tripped out music. In Dublin's Temple Bar Music Centre Wiggle played along one of their idols; legendary reggae vocalist Eek-A-Mouse. |
