1.) I doubt it. It's not uncommon for the wrong person to be arrested and called in for questioning.

Sounds like their main suspect is in hospital. I'd suggest it's unlikely they'll fuck this up for a second time.
Either this individual has attempted to commit suicide or, perhaps, they were caught by someone/a group of people and battered.
A young woman is murdered by a killer who hasn't been apprehended and you're worried about if it's getting more attention from the authorities than other murders.
Did they? Or did the cops take their description and assume it was that man?
Either way, the chances of misidentifying someone are far greater than getting their gender wrong.
