Rebelettes Rhona Way With It

What about that! The men might have only won a Munster hurling title but Cork's ladies have been ripping it up again this year winning the senior All-Ireland camogie and football titles.

Cork's gallant footballers were struggling at the break yesterday as Dublin lead 1-7 to 0-4 and when Dublin added a second goal shortly after half-time it looked like bainisteoir Eamon Ryan's run of victories might be at an end.

Cue Cork's best substitution of all time as Eamo sent Rhona Ní Bhuachalla and Eimear Scally storming into action who both slammed two crucial goals into the Dublin net.

Rebels Rhona way with it!

While reports might say that Cork just about edged it given the scoreline the truth is that Cork were as good as they always were and dominated much of the match but for their shooting in front of goal.

The usually accurate Geraldine O'Flynn had missed a few simple frees late in the second half and there were points where we thought it was "just not our day" - like against Tipp a few weeks ago.

Not so. The steely Rockchapel half-back clinched the winning point with a superb shot from play under pressure to seal victory for the Rebelettes sending Croke Park into a fenzy of high pitched screams of joy - in Cork accents of course.

This completes yet another historic Rebel double with our ladies winning both football and camogie titles. Admittedly it's not that uncommon with doubles in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009.

(The girls will arrive at the city centre homecoming on South Mall tonight, Monday 29th Sept, at 8pm)
