Cork Winterfest is now in its third year, and we fully expect a capacity crowd to jam the Crúiscín Lán for the 19th – 21st December. On Friday night English folk-metal crusaders SKYCLAD walk the boards in Cork for the first time in 23 years, and on Saturday the viking hordes of Sweden’s AMON AMARTH will tear the place apart.

There are 22 other bands over the weekend, showcasing a mix of Cork’s own talent (HALLOWED, CARNÚN RISING, REVOLUTION OF A SUN and more), Irish metal heavyweights (including MASS EXTINCTION and MOURNING BELOVETH), and half a dozen more from the UK, Germany and Finland; three album launches are expected over the weekend; and added to this will be trade stands from Sentinel Records and Invictus Promotions.

Cork Winterfest has rapidly gained in stature since its inception in 2006 to become a respected operator on the European small festival circuit. In its first year Cork Winterfest was headlined by Dublin gaelic-doom band MAEL MÓRDHA, alongside Cork’s CARNÚN RISING and HALLOWED; in 2007 Ireland’s legendary metal kings PRIMORDIAL delivered an incredible show that broke sales records in the Crúiscín Lán and meant the show was sold out by 9pm. This year we fully expect to sell the show out in advance: ticket sales are already moving fast with fans travelling from all parts of the island and all over Europe.

As with previous years we will be recording the show in Hi-Def; several bands have released footage from Cork Winterfest as live DVDs, including FOR RUIN (2007).

We believe that it is the small, intimate nature of Cork Winterfest that has contributed to our success: the fans are right up at the stage, and you can always catch the bands afterwards for a drink. Our city centre location in the famous Crúiscín Lán bar means that food and accommodation are only a step away.

We’ve spent the last year putting together the best bands we can find to bring to Cork: Cork Winterfest 2008 is taking place this December: 24 bands, 250 fans, 3 days of Heavy Metal Heaven!
