Hmmmm, I dunno. They have a unified kernel and a unified runtime (WinRT) but that's about it. You could argue, almost correctly, that Apple have done the same with Darwin and parts of Cocoa.

No, 7 is quite good. XP was decent enough too.

I run it with VMWare, took me about 10 minutes to figure out how to shut it down. I'm sure it's fine once you're used to it but they seem to have left users to figure shit out themselves.

was messing around with it on an ultra book last night. Guy had updated from 7 to 8. wifi packed up.

had to download a driver from Acer to sort it. Ye'd think they would get a basic wifi driver update right by now...

other than that it's kinda nice... copying Apple a bit though - change a few graphics and the interface around a bit, tweak a few things and call it a new OS.. hardly .. I reckon they should have just called windows 7 pt 2 [or is it 3?] like Apple OSx [insert variant here].....

Now that i have it over a week i find that it's decent. The one problem is that it doesn't allow DVD play back unless you update (buy) to windows 8 pro and then update (buy) media center.

I have tried watching a DVD on VLC and Cyberlink ,the say insert a compatible disc.
