Small is one of the main requirements, but I also want to make sure I have something that isn't a worthless piece of metal in 2 years time.
Anyway, round up of the mid/low range of some of the mobile phones out there

Here be the options:
Motorola RAZR i
£5 extra a month, so I guess that makes it £120 for the phone.

Pro:
Seems like a decent allrounder, camera seems good from reviews, screen looks ok, battery, at 2,000mAh is pretty hefty and it has a MicroSD slot. AnTuTu performance also pretty good.

Cons: The older generation of Intel processors have a drinking problem.

Nokia 620
£2/month extra, so that makes it £48 over the 2 year contract
Pros:
Offline maps
Camera is supposedly pretty decent for a low priced phone
Dual core n stuff
Cons:
Windows Phone 8, support for apps could be better. Missing Dolphin. Just checked, there isn't an Economist app for it either.

Samsung Galaxy Ace
£1/month more
Pro:
Jesus, I dunno
Con:
3.5 inch screen? Really
Froyo!!
An inevitably shit 5MP camera

Samsung SIII Mini
£5/month, £120 for the 2 years
Pro:
Good display
Con:
Meh

Sony Xperia J
£1/month
Pro:
Good display
Crapware isn't that bad, 50Gb from box.net, whoever the hell they are. But nice.
Con:
More meh-ness

Apple iPhone 4S (the 4 8GB is just too little memory)
£11 extra a month, £264 over 2 years
Pro
Good display, best selection of apps (by a nose)
Con
I like having a menu button. And options. And to control stuff. Back buttons are nice too.
Also does not have Dolphin browser, which is a hell of a lot better than the standard android and iPhone browser

Overall, I think its might have to be the Motorola RAZi. Not so sure I'm comfortable buying a Motorola.

The Nokia was winning until I learned Dolphin and the Economist aren't on it.

I stopped using Dolphin , I don't think it really kept up .

Skyfire and Firefox are there if you don't like the stock browser in android , both with some good features .

Just get the Sony , You know in your heart it's the best built , and you want an android ....( The box is a pile of meh though , I didn't bother )

Does the Box actually work though?

The Sony is on the limit of how big I want my phone. Should have added that to the cons.

Yeah, I'm having some issues with Dolphin recently, seems like they're messing around with some stuff and the Jetpack add on seemed to be sucking juice. So uninstalled it and now it's not working half as well.

Also, scrolling not so good sometimes. Do like the bookmark management, tabbing, ability to set User Agent (just get me the normal fucking website and stop screwing around with this crappy mobile version!) and a bunch of other features. It is definitely faster than the stock browser too.

Will give Firefox a go. Never heard of Skyfire.

This looks like a pretty decent phone. It's not a brand name but it's quad core and has the new mediatek SoC and is cortex a7 which means that it does not consume much power! Combine that with the 3000 mAh battery then the life of this phone should be pretty good. It also has 1GB RAM so it has very good specs for a low price and a 13mp camera and room for a memory card!

I've bought a tablet off the website before and am extremely happy with it so it might be worth a shot! Hope this helps!
