In relation to a Cork lord mayor his/her only 'kpi' would be what he gets done for Cork hence far easier to critic them.

Yes we have loads of tds that don't do jack for Cork but it is muddy waters, do we or don't we want parish pump politics? And their mandates especially ministers is not really about Cork it's national.

Do you think the local elections and European elections are good barometer of how things would pan out if a general election was held tomorrow?

He should be in the civil service. He's be grand in a senior role in one of the government departments. He's absolutely useless as a politician, especially regarding constituency issues.

I doubt that very much. To occupy such a position you would generally need a far stronger grasp of the facts and understanding of the underlying dynamics than Coveney possesses.

Which ones?

They are all failures on every level.

Their role is not to dictate policy. It is to facilitate government policy in so far as they can. If policies fail, it is typically because governmental policies are wrong. Don't blame the ones trying to implement stupid policies.

Case in point. When you were cheerleading FF's stupid pro-cyclical economic policies and absurd worship of the construction industry, it was the policies that you supported that were fated to bankrupt the date - not the civil servants implementing the policies.

Sure it was never the Department of Finance, Central Bank or Financial regulator of course asleep at the wheel.

The old Nuremburg "We were only following orders" defence and blaming the voters is simply another sop.

You are equating industrial-scale mass murder to civil servants implementing government economic policy in a parliamentary democracy.

Wow.
