It has to be the Catalpa Rescue. A lot of people are unfamiliar with it. TG4 did a reasonable version but this deserves the BIG SCREEN
Brief summary in 1865/67 the British round up supporters of the IRB and deport them to a penal colony in Western Australia. After 2 years one escapes on a whaling ship and ends up in Boston eventually he teams up with another Fenian. A number of Fenians are pardoned but the core group are still held. One manages to smuggle a letter to the lads in Boston asking they arrange a rescue ship. They bought a ship the Catalpa sailed to Western Australia via the Azores. Meanwhile Fenian agents had befriended the British Governor of Western Australia and persuaded him to give them a tour of the penal Colony. Other Fenians got jobs in the Colony readying themselves to cut the telegraph wires......now read on

The Williamite Wars 1689-1691.

Probably the most brutal and eventful period in Irish history.

The outcome of which still resonates to this day.

"Irish Neutrality 1939 - 1945"

How DeValera maintained Irish neutrality (allegedly) through WW2.

I'm surprised no Irish station has made a mini series out of that event.

The question is, who would play DeV?

The Fenian invasion of Canada would make a good one too.

Good call.

You'd get a decent mini-series out of the rise and fall of Parnell, I reckon.
