Default Player Ratings

1. Donal Og (9.5) The only reason not to give 10 is so that we can give him that in the final and round off a great year for the country's number one No.1.
2. Pat Mul (4) Standards have slipped way below last year. Is it being captain or what? Donal Og had to rescue him in the second half.
3. Sully (4) Twice the size but only half the man. Just not cutting it at the moment.
4. Brian Murphy (6) the odd shaky moment but played well overall.
5. Gardiner (7) not as all commanding as at other times but still played very well.
6. Sean Og (6.5) A shade below his half back partners but did the job.
7. Ronal Curran (9) Outstanding. I don’t what his is doing this year that he didn’t do last year but its working.
8. Tom & Gerry ( 8 ) Well on top for most of the game. Waterford gave them plenty of it in the second half but they kept at it. The best partnership in the game today.
9. Timmy (9) Credit where it’s due. Another great performance for the Croke Park specialist. He seems to play very well in tight games.
10. Niall Mc (4) Another poor game. Works hard and is all bluster but I do wonder what’s going through his head at times.
11. Niall Ronan (7) Kept at it until the legs gave out. He’s clearly not a 70 minute man but for 50 or so he really gives it all. And damn skilful to boot.
12. Ben (6) Not a great return from a player who has standards as high as he has. Still managed to contribute positively though.
13. The legend (7) maybe an 8 but he does take times outs every now and again. If we could cross him with Derval think of the athlete you’d get (though for the kid’s sake I hope it would take after the mother looks wise).
14. Joe (7) A bit up and down. Still knocks over the frees and gets out to the ball. A great contributor.
15. Naughton (9) You can’t ask for anymore. It will be interesting to see if he gets in ahead of Neil Ronan for the final.

I can't see why you gave Curran a 9 and Deano a 7 and only give Pat Mul a 4.
Curran caught great balls when it counted at the end but IMO had a quiet enough game for most of it.
Deane was poor yesterday IMO. OK he score his frees but if he missed them he should be shot.I felt his reactions were very slow he seemed to be second to every ball.
Yesterday was Pat Mulcahy's best game all year he cleared some great balls and had to tidy up for Sully all day.

i thought Curran was great when he had to be. I wouldnt disagree with you on Joe in one sense but when he gets the ball he stil is dangerous and he kept following up to be in postion to make that pass for the goal.
Pat Mul IMO is just not as assured as last year. and looking at the telly Donal Og really let him have it at one stage in teh second half.

emurf. I think 4 is a bit harsh on Niall Mac, 5 or 6 would be more appropriate, he worked and worked and won no amount of ball but as usual, his shooting left him down. He seemed to suffer dispproportinately in the conditions too. We've seen Deane fade out of games before, it happens with him. That said, he'll always slot the frees for you and a player like that is valuable beyond measure even if that were to be the sum total of his contributions (which it wasn't). Look at how Waterford missed Bennett yesterday. I reckon Waterford learned from the Limerick game too, the Cork back three are not comfortable with balls being rained down on them. It could well see us unstuck against a physical side like Clare (were they to win.)

Harsh on Sean Og surely? Keeping Shanahan quiet is no mean feat.

He kept Shanahan quiet on the scoreboard but the amount of times Shanahan set Mullane and McGrath free (IIRC) was fairly high. First half though he had him completely in his pocket (bar that ludicrous sideline cut...). On balance? Yeah, I reckon 6.5 is harsh, but maybe 7 wouldn't be?

10 from 20 for the fullback line is troubling - heard it on radio - seemed Sully broke alot of ball - was that not the idea, stop Wa'ford from high fielding around the goal?

Was Ben O' C fit or out of sorts somehow? see below

Besides the line ball, Sean Og O H sounded like an 8.

Deane can fade but he laid on the goal and knocked over points at the edge of his distance - funny that Ben gave over to Deane - any thought that he was ill (not just less than 100% fit)?
