Gemma O Doherty
Former Independent Newspapers journalist Gemma O'Doherty has settled her unfair dismissal case against Independent Newspapers.
Ms O'Doherty contended that she was unfairly selected for compulsory redundancy, after she went to the home of the former garda commissioner Martin Callinan, during her investigation of the penalty point controversy.
The company denied the allegations, saying the redundancy was part of a corporate restructuring.
The settlement was announced this morning in a statement read to the Employment Appeals Tribunal by Senior Council Brian Kennedy.
Independent Newspapers unreservedly apologised to Ms O'Doherty for what it described as the stress and hardship caused by the proceedings.
Ms O'Doherty is to receive undisclosed damages and Independent Newspapers will "indemnify her in relation to her legal costs".
It said Ms O'Doherty had "acted at all times in a professional and diligent manner".
Ms O'Doherty described the outcome as a resounding vindication of her professional and personal reputation.

A good journalist being treated shamefully. INM tried their best to get rid of this story , hopes she takes it further.

FFS. This just happened now.
No surprise that the Best Victims Ever are out like a shot (pun intended) trailing their own victimhood in tandem.
What you won't find happening here though is the cult-like, on-message, "blame the victim" disgusting carry on that we witnessed from the Shinnerbots in the Mairia Cahill case.
Neither will you find the provo sympathiser tactic which demands a courtroom conviction as the only acceptable proof of wrong-doing when it comes to one of their own, when in this case there is an out of court settlement.
The Best Victims Ever will be disgusted.
I am glad that Gemma O Doherty has been vindicated today and that she took a sizeable wedge from INM for her troubles.

Tbf, you are completely out of order here imo. A link was put up of a report to journalist who won an unfair dismissal case. Then you go off on a tangent about a completely unrelated incident.

You are clearly unaware of the background to this story on here, Cork-Y.
The resident SF spokesman has been banging the drum about the lack of justice for Ms O Doherty in the face of INM/Denis O Brien/FG/establishment conspiracy for months.
The woman was let go unjustly. Today she settled her case. End of.
Also, did you not wonder what the second post in the thread was about?
Whattabouttery central for the Victims party.
I merely pointed out that normal people wouldn't be setting about victimising the victim.

SF seem to have taken her under their wing, I'm not sure that being so associated with one particular party is good for any journalist's reputation where it comes to being impartial tbh.
