This is the Brexit thread Cona_n.I am sure that EU (Where you live) companies have specific reasons for going "bust".

Thomas Cook are specifically blaming Brexit for a 20% rise in their costs due to sterling's collapse and a contributing to their overall poor performance leading to their implosion.

More than 1,000 jobs lost in Peterborough as Thomas Cook collapses

Peterborough-based holiday company Thomas Cook has collapsed - resulting in the loss of more than 1,000 jobs in the city.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced early on Monday morning that the tour operator has "ceased trading with immediate effect" after last-ditch rescue talks failed.

It means more than 150,000 British holidaymakers who are currently abroad will need to be repatriated back to the UK, with the CAA and the government aiming to get them all home by October 6.

Peterborough voted "Leave".

The pound being on its knees has created very challenging conditions for all UK holiday companies as consumer sentiment has gone through the floor.

Company block books hotels, airline seats etc 9 months previously - sterling collapses - profit margin gone.

No brainer really.

You have business interests in both the E.U. and the U.K. apparently and yet you are blissfully unaware.

Oh well.

Barnier on inspecting cows on the border!

EU sources have said no proper alternative for the border has been proposed yet by London, so no breakthrough is on the cards.

In a quip about British talk of virtual checks on the border, Mr Barnier said: "I don't know how to inspect a cow with virtual methods."

"Based on current UK thinking, it is difficult to see how we can arrive at a legally operative solution which fulfils all the objectives of the backstop. It is in a very sensitive and difficult phase," he said.

FFS!

Thomas Cook has gone bust due to the billions of debt it put on its books from the acquisition of MyTravel in 2007.

Here's an article from somebody with dry pants that will explain it for you....

Goes back even further according to what I’ve read.

The reason the government didn’t bail them out is because they said it was only a stop gap, and the company was on the road to oblivion anyway.

For once I agree with the tories.

Remainers are doing themselves no favors blaming this on brexit. Even a halfwit could see that brexit was at most a variable.
