To be honest, that'll probably be about the time i can go ( 2008 ), just wanted to know if anyone had been before. I reckon if i am heading out that way that it'd be best to get in a bit more. Would need to brush up on some Spanish too i'd say.

I was there 3 years ago. Was great stuff altogether. Dont take the option of the bus to the town at the base of the mountain like all the fat yanks, do the Trail! Its hard on the body and you'll be stinking after it but is great stuff and makes the sight all the more worthwhile at the end. When we got there we were there before the mists had been burned off and before any of the day trekkers. Was unbelievable to see the sun start to shine through the heavy mist and suddenly glimpses of the city start appearing! Is truely beautiful sight! Dont miss out on the opportunity to do it, its worth every drop of weat. Are you going to tour South America or just Peru? If you get a chance pop over the border to Bolivia to do a safari on the salt plains, thats another hard but worth it event.

I went to MP 2 years ago. Flew into Lima via Amsterdam with KLM. Lima for a few days then flew to Cusco, from where you start the Inca Trail to MP. You need a few days there to acclimatise to the altitude. You HAVE to walk the trail - don't cheat and get the bus. Its tough, but worth every minute. Pay a little extra and get a good tour group.
KLM flights to Lima stop off on an island in the Caribbean called Bonaire, so we got off there for a week of sun and relaxation after.
3 weeks in total - 2 in Peru, 1 in Bonaire. Happy Days.

You can't get a bus to Aguas Calientes at the base of the mountain. You might be able to in a few years but not yet. You can get a train there, I got it at night and you can walk up to MP anytime you choose, early or late! The trail didn't appeal to me so I didn't do it.
Definitely learn some Spanish, you'll need it! I'm not the greatest speaker of it, i wish I had learned more though. There is loads to see in Peru, it's very diverse and beautiful.

Peru is beautiful and so is MP but u don´t need Spanish anywhere around there. I was there a few weeks ago and all I´ll say is that if u do want to see it, do it sooner rather than later cos it´s gonna be closed sooner than u think judging by government talk around that part of the world
I worked in Cusco for the last 2 months so gimme a shout if u want any localish advice
