defo, thats completely against his philosophy.

He never spent huge money in any of the clubs he coached at.

Sylvain Wiltord cost an awful lot of money by Arsenal standards for the amount he played.

Wouldnt rate him as a complete flop though.

true, my bad.

Now how many shit players has wenger had under his wing, regardless of the money spent?

The most obvious have already been named, Cygan, Alliadiere, Jeffers...any others?

Igor Stepanovs. Handed Dwight Yorke a hat-trick at OT in 2001.

..Ferguson danced all over him.

I'll accept Wenger as one of the all time greatest managers in English football, ..and an absolute genius at picking and developing players, no argument.

..but any praise for Wenger would have to be accompanied by double that amount of praise for Ferguson who competed alongside him at the same time.

plus, as Stevie pointed out, his European record is guff.

And the money in the bank argument is nice, but at the end of the day these are football clubs and not building societies. who cares? ..Arsenal are the richest club in the World these days apparently.

I don't think Arsenal had the money up until the last few years to be fair.

The money issue is real, its is the single most important factor in modern day soccer. BIg money has given Chelsea 2 titles. Its given United their current squad.

At the same time, money is part of the game and always was.

Football clubs are all about re-investing the money coming into the clubs to maximise the production on the pitch.

Ferguson has done this extremely well and consistently well since the additions of the likes of Steve Bruce back in 1987 and McClair. ..and consistently since then.

If anything, perhaps Wenger has been too conservative with his outlay, ..Arsenal could possibly be more dominant in England and Europe with a bit more panache with the chequebook and with the resources available.

Both of their Euro records aren't up to snuff.
