Fergus O’Dowd, the chairman of the Oireachtas sport committee, said it was preparing to write to the FAI, Sport Ireland and the Department of Sport to seek updates on the numerous investigations being carried out into the FAI’s finances and governance.

O’Dowd said among the questions the body had failed to answer was who authorised a misleading press statement in March that claimed the FAI board had been informed of Delaney’s €100,000 loan and repayment in 2017. Delaney later said he informed only two board members about the transaction.

Despite promises that it would answer this question in a follow-up letter after last month’s Oireachtas hearing, the FAI has not done so.
