I am going a bit of the subject here but why did cricket never become a big sport in Canada like it did in other Commonwealth countries ?

Hard to take hold in the French areas?
Baseball?

They were in the World Cup, the infamous one where Ireland beat Pakistan though, weren't they?

Canada does have ODI status DogY - but not test status.

In terms of an answer to your question I'd say take your pick from:

1. Canada gained independence in 1867 - well before Cricket became a serious organised sport. Most of the other countries were colonies into the 20th century and had at least a full generation of organised cricket under their belts before joining the commonwealth

2. Brutal weather in a long winter

3. Baseball

4. French influence in part of the country

5. American preference for fast-moving quick-result sports where it's easy to see who is winning and who is losing

Australia need to do a New Zealand.

This is ironic on a few levels.
