Default Mary Elmes

I think she is a candidate to have the new bridge named after between Merchants Quay and Patrick’s Quay. She was a real heroine and was from Winthrop Street in the heart of the city.

Heard a bit of an interview on this story last Saturday. What a lady. Another Cork legend - albeit hidden for decades.

I think UCC are talking about naming some buildings after worth women. They could do a lot worse than name one of them after Mary Elmes

Good suggestion.

If Honka Honka Woman doesn't get it I hope Mary Elmes gets the nod.

If not a bridge named after her, surely a plaque or statue in her native city?

This is an extract from the article:

"Others, though, seem to have forgotten the past. It bothers Caroline Danjou that her mother is so little known in her own country.

Caroline's brother Patrick wrote to her old alma mater Trinity College in 2014 to invite them to commemorate an exceptional past pupil, but received no response. The London School of Economics didn’t reply either, he says."

****

She was one of our own, and she deserves to be remembered.

Amazing story.

She did a hell of a lot more work than a fraudster like Mother Teresa.
