Toireassa Ferris has announced she is stepping down from kerry co council
as well as not contesting general election for health reasons, it will be interesting to see if the Dail seat is a SF seat or a Ferris seat,

SF seat, I don't think even the Rae-Nua political machine would contest it.

Speaking of SF, and getting back to thread title, where is Mary Lou?
I know politicians tend to go to ground in summer but not a squeak from her - is this a SF strategy following poor enough elections in May or is she just enjoying extended hols!

As for Kerry, not sure about SF seat. SF strong in North Kerry, especially around Tralee but nothing in Kerry South. County being one constituency doesn't suit SF.
Don't think they even ran a candidate in Kerry South in 2011.
Ferris had over 20% of the vote in 2011 and 2007 in Kerry North. In 2016, that dropped to 12% in Kerry overall and he'd pull a solid non-party personal vote. Think they'll be in a struggle to get the last seat unless significant upturn in party's fortunes nationwide.

SF can decide who could and couldn't march at SF organised commemorations. That's kinda the way it works. If others want to hold their own commemorations they can knock themselves out.

In my opinion the hunger strikers belong to no one party, The fact that Lynch,
o Hara, Devine were with the inla should not lessen their sacrifice, as far as i know the reason The kevin Lynch band were not allowed march was because they took part in a march with a glasgow band who would be seen as very militant and had links to Dissident groups,

Nobody suggesting that they made a lesser sacrifice. There was much more hassle between pinnies and stickies than who could and couldn't march in parades you know.

SF hold different commemorations to St Finbarre's Cemetary, Bodenstown, Sunday's Well etc. You turn up at a particular commemoration you follow the organisers rules. I've even been at ones in Kerry where things were said against Adams and McGuinness (who was alive at the time). Those who organise such events decide what is and isn't permissible.

Surely when commemorating someone, his family's feelings should be considered?

Don't think they can be "Sure of the seat" even if either of the Ferris' run.
Based on Euros and locals, that seat could be in trouble anyway but your general point correct - would be very difficult to retain the seat without one of them on the ticket.
