Work hit me with a curveball today. Advice needed.

So I'm on a six month secondment at the moment, which I'd actually make permanent if I could, but they are extremely restricted on headcount and don't think they can keep me past September.

Meanwhile, my actual department has been restructured completely and the job I've done for over 8 years doesn't really exist anymore.

I met with one of the more senior people today to go through options, as in a few weeks I'll be in limbo between a team that has no use for me and one that has no capacity for me.

We discussed options and that was all very positive, but at the end he slowed it all down and said "there's one other thing I wanted to mention... there will be packages coming up".

Now the last fucking thing I need is to be out of work when I'm trying to buy a house. If I was still in Dublin and good jobs were abundant, it'd probably be a great call. But in Cork?

I dunno. What do I do? Does it depend on the package? Is it too risky? Do I hold my own, or could voluntary eventually become compulsory?

Also, anyone hiring? First round is on me. Half pints only.

MoE.

Well if you’re trying to get a mortgage I wouldn’t be moving, having said that you did mention you have a fair bit of cash saved so if it’s a small mortgage maybe your Mrs’ salary will suffice.

Taking the mortgage out of the equation I’d see what a package might look like but I’d also be factoring in how long it would take to get a new job. It can take a fair few months to get the right one depending on industry.

There's no jobs in Cork m8 I saw Paddy powers are looking for someone in daunt square if your interested in that ?

Take the package and emigrate .

Do nothing. Stay put. Dont take the first offer. Don't tell them anything. if you want to stay someone else will volunteer.

if you want to go, stall and get your mortgage take your package.

Don't tell the bank, you could be working there for the next 2 years yet, even if you take a package
