Woman murdered in Tullamore..

Would, or do, you call out others on their behaviour?

That's a big part of it, I think. Lots of men wouldn't do anything disrespectful or intimidating towards a woman, but they wouldn't get involved if someone else did.

I absolutely get that sometimes that is out of fear for their own safety, but it is also sometimes out of embarrassment or just not wanting to cause a fuss or be seen as a wuss, or no craic, or whatever.
I would have absolutely no issue with calling out abuse be it verbal or physical towards anyone women, men, children or animals and I have done plenty of times in the past.

Men have to play a role in protecting their kids against the Andrew Tates of this world.

I missed this bit, dont you think we all have a role in protecting kids against the Andrew Tates of this world because you equally wouldn't allow your kid to hang around with an absolute scumbag like him in RL? I agree with you entirely that both boys and girls need to be shielded from the sick shit he espouses. Funnily enough he is the cause of serious friction in my house because I wont allow my youngfella to put TikTok or Insta on his phone, its was part of the deal when he eventually got one. Every few weeks he conveniently forgets the reason why and starts moaning that he should have TikTok in particular again.

The 2 main reasons why i wont allow him is that porn is actively pushed towards you on the platform, and secondly I dont want him watching the likes of Andrew Tate. I explained the AT thing again recently, and tried explaining about how his view of the world could very easily be heavily influenced by the algorithm pushing a certain narrative at him via TikTok and that he is too young to be able to analyse this yet. I was explaining how AT has been allowed to influence millions of young males via these apps with his vile opinions and suggestions for those kids which leads to nothing but misery

'But I dont even know who Andrew Tate is so thats just stupid'
'Exactly"

:)

Its a nightmare id imagine. I thank god mine are all in late 20's early 30's. Remembering back to my own early teens and there were none of the social media / mobile phone issues obviously but what was there was a pretty confused young fella trying to come to terms with the world around him. Girls boys , even then the odd porno mag in school . A chat with the auld fella was the last last thing I wanted to hear id say. With age comes maturity and thats the hardest thing to accept as a parent , we want our kids to flourish and grow and probably not make the very mistakes we have made . Listening is key and explaining things if possible in a way that doesent seem like lecturing .
One thing is for sure you will never know everything that your kid thinks or gets up to , you can only instill good values and hope they take things on board .

Yeah, that would be my own take on it too. I do remember the chat about women with my dad though, and funnily enough I reckon a lot of what i said to my youngfella was word for word the same thing! I caught him in the car on the way from a Cork match so he had no choice, otherwise I'd have never kept hold of him for long enough!

Her death wasn’t any more or less shocking based on who killed her. It was shocking because a young woman was out for a run and was killed by a man. If the reason some are angrier now is because he was an immigrant, they’ve exposed exactly what they care about and it’s not women’s safety.

The murderer was a piece of filth wherever he came from, There is no denying some people were falling over each other lecturing
irish men in the immediate aftermath,
