More like the mail, the express and the Sun. Also, the media is more than newspapers
And referring back to the original comparison of how said media treated the McCanns and the people from the Mathews estates is right.
Yes the McCanns got some stick, but I'd doubt anyone anywhere called them or their neighbours a feral underclass. The british media did that to the people helping to look for Shannon ( I'm sure the book is available for free/almost free if you're interested enough to follow up)
It's probably gotten worse since the inception of social media too I'd imagine. Easy enough to find a few videos of people behaving badly in certain places and ignore the 99.9% just going about their lives.
As for here, how many campaigns did Vradkar undertake against almost non existent social welfare fraud and how many did he undertake against high earners cheating on their taxes?
I'm not calling into question any of the evidence or facts he produced more so saying I think he used these facts selectively without any degree of balance.
For example he could have written a book about how rich people avoid going to prison and backed it up with a myriad of examples.
But he could also write a book about how people in less affluent areas with multiple convictions avoid prison sentences.
Or he could have written a book about how GAA players avoid prison, or rugby players or soccer players etc again giving a shed load of examples.
I'm sure after reading any of these books where someone is in either a different social class or affiliated to a different sporting organisation they will all feel they are put upon, and sure aren't the facts there to prove it.
Or if he wanted to give the true picture he could have written a book which devotes a chapter on each of the above and the conclusion would not be that any specific group is targeted but that on the whole it is not that difficult to avoid a prison sentence, regardless of who you are.
The examples you have given, in my opinion, backs up my initial point about the class war, i.e Varadkar goes after welfare recipients because his voter base resent having to pay welfare through there taxes, they resent working while other people don't etc similarly you will have socialist parties waxing lyrical about the fat cat bankers, landlords etc.
It is an easy sell for both, because there is no love lost between the wealthier and poorer sections of society.
People can debate the rights and wrongs of people having the above opinions all day but it probably still won't change the fact there will always be animosity between the classes, and there will always be people around to exploit this, Leo and Tommy Gould etc are the current ringmasters.
