Woke School Alert...

A sufficient number would be one. No teenage girl should be expected to share toilet facilities with boys (and vice versa) if they are uncomfortable doing so. And who cares less what the French get up to.
They are sharing a enclosed cubicle suitable for one person at a time. You are creating drama were there is none, not surprising really, it symptomatic of a fool.

In fairness though if I’m 15 and I’m in serious need of a dump I’m going to hold that motherfucker in in fear of the beour I fancy walking in to the toilets right when I’m about to drop the bomb!!!

how can she walk in on a locked cubicle. Just walk out and blame the stink on the guy before

I was in France well over 20 year ago on a school exchange program and those toilets were every where. Not surprising Toibin has an issue considering his beliefs.
Smelt the BS off that one a mile off and sure enough from Claude
"No, they are not common — but they have been the subject of an active and somewhat controversial debate in France.
So the short answer: gender-neutral toilets exist in a small number of French secondary schools, mostly as pilot schemes during renovations, but they remain far from the norm and are genuinely contested."

The fool and the lawyer liker mightn't know better. The view would be a minority one. Otherwise, such toilets would be ubiquitous in public places in Ireland, France and elsewhere. They're not.
