Agree maternity leave is no big deal but it does beg the question as to what exactly she is doing for Cork SW on a daily basis if she can vacate her post for approximately a quarter of her elected term without anyone deputising for her on a local level.

But ask yourself, what does a TD actually do anyway? The office staff do most of the work dealing with constituents and liaising with state agencies like the HSE etc.

There should be statutory maternity leave for politicians and nominated proxies to attend the Dáil in their absence.
