Which sports book are you reading at the moment?

I have two football books lined up to tuck into over the next few weeks;

"Football And How To Survive It" by Pat Nevin (his first book - "The Accidental Footballer" - was an absolute pleasure to read - even if he did play for Everton).

"The Miracle of Castel di Sangro" by Joe McGinniss.

Added that to my shopping list.
Pat Nevin is brilliant I’d be interested in that one for sure

As I said, "The Accidental Footballer" was fantastic. (I've learned just yesterday that it wasn't his first book).

Nevin isn't thick, he can tell a story and it doesn't have to be a "needless to say I had the last laugh" tale either.
I've a long flight coming up in a few weeks so I think I'll line this book up for that.

I picked up the Niland book today too. Based on the extracts and interview it looks like it'll live up to the hype.

I was infinitely further down the tennis chain but I do recall seeing him at a few tournaments. I did manage a landmark 6-0 6-1 loss to his main rival, Stephen Nugent....who, it seems, was less of a fan of books/librarians

Half-way through this one so will finish it first.

Jesus, that one game in the second set was vital - well done PhilbyY, no shutout for Nugent. Any chance it was the first game in the second set? ;)

I'd say these are the only two football biog books I've read that were genuinely interesting and gave a bit of insight.

The standard football biogs are either banal or score settling.

Kevin Keegans is one of the very worst.

2 interesting characters alright.

I met Robbie in a bookies in Townsville Australia about 15 years ago when he was playing out there, he was an absolute gent, completely normal and sound, we had a quick chat and went our separate ways, A few days later I was walking down the street and a black BMW passes me and beeps with a fella sticking the thumb up to me and there was Robbie again :lol!:

A superb player and all round top fella.
