I grew up in the city, the missus out in the sticks.. so when it came to buying she would have been well up for getting a site and building. One thing lead to another and we have ended up living in the city, and she often comments on how she wouldn't change now as the kids have so many facilities and amenities on their doorstep which is what life revolves around for now. Having to get in a car to do absolutely everything everyday would absolutely wreck my head, but each to their own!
For many people where we are born and reared influences our feelings on such things.
A lot of those who are born in the city will only ever truly be happy living in it.
Likewise a culchie will always be a culchie at heart.
Despite living in the city for nearly 20 years, I'm a culchie and in the last few years it has started to feel like the sticks are calling me back home again.
I can't read Town Mouse Country Mouse to my kids anymore without welling up ffs!
I'm sick of the city tbh.
Rarely head into the town anymore so it being on my doorstep is of no benefit. Having facilities and amenities is fine but I honestly can't pinpoint one that we rely on that we couldn't access within a short drive if we lived in a reasonable rural location anyway.
Driving is nothing to me, I actually love driving but I do hate traffic and traffic around the city is sh*t.
Yes sir, put me out in a quite patch with a bit of forestry around me, a workshop with an old car to be restored in it, a half acre to wander around in and not another soul in sight and I'd be as happy as Larry.
