I really need to read again, I spent half my life stuck in a book. I'm guessing it will come eventually
I think the concentration is required is a bit like a muscle and you need to exercise it.I really need to read again, I spent half my life stuck in a book. I'm guessing it will come eventually
I think it's virtually impossible to read while you are stressed etc. For me I literally have to park a book and wait until my head space is calm. No point in forcing it.I really need to read again, I spent half my life stuck in a book. I'm guessing it will come eventually
Tell me about it!. I do read lots on audio, but I really want to get back to regular reading too. My eyes just tired a lot faster than they used to.I really need to read again, I spent half my life stuck in a book. I'm guessing it will come eventually
I did a bit of security work in there 30 odd years ago. The lower hospital which was populated at the time and some nights on the one right at the top of the hill which wasn't."Said the Dead"- Doireann Ní Ghríofa.
An absolutely extraordinary read. It's very lyrical, at times like a mixture between poetry and prose. Very similar style to her last book "A ghost in the throat". It is a style of writing that I expect people will either love or hate. I loved it!
It covers the story of a doctor in the Lee Road mental hospital, Dr Lucia Strangman, and the stories of some of her patients, including Muriel MacSwiney (wife of Terence MacSwiney).
Best book I have read so far this year.
I say a book online I'm going to chance. It's fiction but mainstream for entertainment only. I think it will help get me back to it againTell me about it!. I do read lots on audio, but I really want to get back to regular reading too. My eyes just tired a lot faster than they used to.
Says he who spends hours on his phone!
Sounds good. Read Ghost in the Throat and really liked it too. So definitely my next read."Said the Dead"- Doireann Ní Ghríofa.

Did you have a kip in one of the dressed beds instead? LolI did a bit of security work in there 30 odd years ago. The lower hospital which was populated at the time and some nights on the one right at the top of the hill which wasn't.
Boss showed me around it, and it was like it was abandoned, with some of the beds half made and some fully dressed. Bedside lockers with bits and bobs in them. Televisions in wards etc etc There was a front office with a TV, a kettle and a toilet right next door.
I was supposed to walk around it every few hours or so and turn on and off lights to make it look occupied.
I was always fierce tired those nights though and wasn't able to.
Strange.
