One Second After by William Forschten.

A nuclear attack on the U.S. and its atmosphere detonation EMP fries the power and basically all modern technology.

Interesting take on the breakdown of society that follows.

7/10.

Dont bother with the sequels , used all his decent ideas in the first book.

The Translations of Seamus Heany, edited with an introduction and commentary by Marco Sonzogni which collects all the Translations of Seamus Heany.

Just finished, The Passenger by Ulrich Boschwitz

it's a novel written in 1938 in the month after Kristallnacht, portraying a Jewish businessman trying to get out of Germany.

it starts off brilliantly, real menace and paranoia flowing from the page, flags badly in the middle as he's just fucking about on trains for a 100 pages or so and loses his mind. Some of the set pieces are excellent.

it's okay. Fascinating as a contemporary first person perspective on Germany at the time, only alright as a pot boiler novel.

The author also fled Germany and the brits interred him for the war, as it was coming to an end they stuck him on a ship from Oz to the UK which was torpedoed. Poor fella.

Clear - Carys Davis.

Novel set in 1840s, the story of a man sent to clear an islander from a remote island in Scotland.

The writing style reminded me a lot of Claire Keegan. I thought the ending was a little rushed, and as the book is only 150 or so pages, she could have spaced it out a little better. Still well worth a read though.

Finally finished "March Violets" - it flew along (when I found the time to read it) for the most part but the final few chapters relegated the book from dumb fun to schlocky, cheap trash - with especially one grim scene that is cleary put there for shock value but is so poorly written and heavy-handed that it reads like a first draft. After this I didn't care about Gunther and or how things were going to resolve themselves.

This shouldn't have come as a surprise to me though because, early on in the book, there's a sex scene which is a sophomoric as any escapades detailed to me by liars from my 6th year class in the Mon.

Kerr's metaphors get out of hand too. Some are amusing but they eventually become stretched and annoyed me.

Just started this;

Project Hail Mary.
Good book. Easy reading with good storyline. Not sure what the movie will be like. Skeptical.
7.5/10

Just finished this..Enjoyable read.

The Ryan Gosling character a bit too perfect but anyone who enjoyed McGyver when they were a kid will love this. So let's face it, that's everyone except for potentially Matte, Stuffy and Claire

Just finished " half his age" by Jeanette McCurdy.

It was grand. A spin on the Lolita story. She is definitely well able to write but I found some of the sex scenes needlessly gratuitous. Like she was trying to be shocking, but it ebded up being more juvenile than actually shocking.

5/10.
