edit: i probably should’ve said that it follows gretl after the collapse of the reich and how she navigates what she was witness to as well
as trying to keep the head down.

set in a comedy club in israel, a well past it comedian seems to be having a meltdown on stage and is delivering his memoir to the crowd but mainly another person in the audience from his childhood.

about quarter of the way through. the gags are terrible but the story is decent so far.

edit: the book is set over the course of one night.

Finished "The Bright Sword", by Lev Grossman about a week ago

It's a King Arthur story. I thought it was great. it starts with the Monty Python quote

"Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government."

And you kind of have to read it with that in mind. This isn't a hyperealistic historical fiction it's just great craic. a lot of it is about the weird juxtaposition of Catholocism with the old Pagan stories in Authurian legend.

They are all devout catholics but are fuckin pestered by Faries, Nymphs, Witches and Fiends. God is forever sending them on adventures where they have to magic swords with an arm attached floating in mid air and the like and most of them are sick of it

There has been something of an upsetting of the order of things in the book too so the story centre on the shit lesser characters from the Legends. Bit of a dirty dozen vibe about things. Overall the book was great craic,.well written, I could have used about 50 pages fewer of dream sequences but it's a great read.

Just finished "Table for Two" by Amor Towles. a book of short stories and a novella..Good read too. I find short stories somewhat unsatisfactory they kind of leave you wanting more but this is a good collection more humorous than funny but a good read particularly for a wet midterm

The Warren Zanes book that I mentioned is excellent - I absolutely burned through it. The film is poor and uninteresting by comparison.

Currently reading "The Last Action Heroes" by Nick De Semlyen and it is some craic! Bestow fame on a load of lads with pre-existing massive egos and then add in cocaine, jealousy and backstabbing.

Same guy wrote the absolutely brilliant "Wild & Crazy Guys" about the '80s comedy boom.

The story about Sly and Richard Gere chatting up Princess Di was class. "I'd never have come if I knew prince charming was going to show up"

I'm only a few chapters in but Sly has already had a go a Gere about something and launched a vase at Arnie's head cos he won an award and Stallone was snubbed.

Beautifully written about a woman's obsession with the poet Eibhlin Dubh Ni Chonaill, Author of the poem Keen for Art O Laoghaire.

Highlights the 'female text' and it's obscurity in the recording of history. Sets out to track down the rest of this 1700's woman's story.

Not a light read imo but very poignant. Every mother/ woman will connect with it.

Absolutely loved it!! So much so that I went and found Art's grave. It's in Kilcrea.
