Book two of a trilogy. The 1st, Three Body Problem, was made into a Chinese series of 30 episodes or so and a Netflix 8-parter last year which was very good.

This is also going to be a Netflix series. I hope it's better than the book which I found to be very slow getting off the ground. Over 500 pages and it's only after the halfway mark that it got going for me. Still not a patch on the first book. A 5.5/10 for me. It nearly turns me off reading the last installment.

I read all three. Takes a fair bit of effort alright. First one was outstanding. If you haven’t done so already, I highly recommend Dune.

Have just finished the third of the Patrick Melrose novels by Edward St Aubyn. I had never heard of the bloke in my life. Bro-in-law sent me all 5 of the novels. really enjoyed the first three.

Re-reading the works of Charles Bukowski - in between other books. Currently at "Ham On Rye".

Bukowski is the man - infinitely readable, funny, sad, direct, coded, deep, shallow.

I forgot how vulnerable he (or his avatar Chinaski) is in "Ham On Rye".

I suppose it's because as the adult Hank Chinaski he's the architect of his own destruction - due to booze, women and gambling. But as young Henry Chinaski he's caught up in the maelstrom of fucked-up adults and broken children while he tries to get on with things.

And after I finish that, I'll be going for this which looks really interesting;

Recently read "Air", the last of the John Boyne quartet.

It brings some resolution to the themes and stories of the first 3 books. Maybe too neatly, tbh, but it still works.

As a quartet, they are tough reads. Excellent, but rough going. They look at child sex abuse from the prospective of all the parties involved. Each book is short, but I think they need to be.

Tried in my local bookshop to get it but they hadn't it in stock. Was disappointed 'cos I'm looking forward to reading it. Will just order it I think.
