We Are Cork - Facebook Group

That was a real different Ireland, now there’s over a million people living here who weren’t even born in Ireland. Mad how much it’s changed.
Spotted the small fella watching a reaction video on Youtube of a yank watching hurling for the first time. The first thing outta the yanks mouth when he pressed play was “Where the hell are all the bruvvas at???” in reference to the players on the field and the fans in the croke park stands. Nothing about the hurls, the helmets, nothing. It just stood out immediately to the youtuber that there was a complete absence of people of colour.
Says it all really about any talk of “invasion”. Puts things in perspective. The small fella pretty much ignored the insight.

You can't blame the black lads for not wanting to get into GAA cause they'd get paid FUCK ALL.
Any black athlete with a bit of sense would get into soccer, rugby, or track and field.

The yank isn't wrong, the Gaa aren't the friendliest.

I didn't say that.

The interesting question here is did any single women who became pregnant during the period when those homes were active avoid ending up in one of those places or was it an inevitability that they did regardless of their particular circumstances.
Many married to stop themselves being committed to those homes.

Not inevitable. Many married as a path to "respectability".

Even in other cases though, if the family were willing to allow the single mother to stay at home then they could stay at home. It would be a scandal, but not illegal. My father's best friend in childhood was the son of a single mother, in rural north Cork in the 1930s/1940s.
