It’s the narrative around calling it a “clerical regime “ as opposed to an Islamic Republic which is actually its official title.
It’s also related to the narrative of Islamophobia. Criticism of Islam seems to treated as criticism of a race or national identity.
Islam is not just a religion but also a political ideology in many countries, including Iran. It should be subject to the same ridicule and criticism as any political ideology or religion. Labelling criticism of Islam as Islamophobia is utter bullshit and an attack on free speech.
