For peace the Iranian regime has to go, full stop. That will cost a lot of American soldiers lives if they go boots on the ground.

The Iranian regime doesn't have to go for peace, Trump & Israel could just back down entirely. Which isn't going to happen, obvs.

This is an unlimited war for Iran and a limited war for the USA*.

Iran is the country that basically franchised suicide and car bombings. I suspect a ground assault on a nation of 90 million that are one of the world's leading producers of cheap military drones is going to be a "fuck around and find out" moment.

The slaughter of normal iranians for protesting was horrific, I would expect an awful lot more than that would die if there is a ground invasion.


*In a limited war, there is no existential threat. In an unlimited or total war, there is. It's a lot harder to beat a foe if you're engaged in a limited war and they're in an unlimited war, as Russia found out.

“We think they should put a president in or the head of the country that’s going to be able to do something peacefully for a change. They’ve been doing this for 47 years, killing people for 47 years.
