Along with oil being the chief export of the country, the country is also the origin of cocoa and Afro-Venezuelans worked on the plantations that would send chocolate all across the Spanish Empire and into Europe. Seafood from the Caribbean region make up 50% of Venezuela's agricultural foreign exports.

Portuguese have a big community in the country, mestizos make up the majority of the population and there is a substantial Arab population who came to Latin America in the 19th & 20th century during the
Ottoman Empire era and so were known as Turcos, (Syrians, Palestinians & Lebanese).

Former Pres Chavez was the country's first mestizo leader and had good relations with Cuba's Castro & Syria's Assad. He was a constant thorn in the side of Bush's America. He brought about the Bolivarian Revolution renaming the country the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the currency the Bolivar.
