We should bring back capital punishment and all - for even the most minor of legal infractions.

With the rising cost of drink, cinema tickets and restaurants - combined with the closure of decades-old businesses in town - Cork City centre needs something to get its mojo back.

Public hangings in Daunt Square would return the forgotten footfall to town on Saturday mornings.

The city council wouldn't even need to fork out for the gallows. There would be local businesses clamouring to get their name on the gantry and the rest.

A knock-on effect would be a dent in the housing crisis figures also.
